Introducing the “Partners” of Partners for Transitions:

Kalah Bumba:
Kalah’s career has spanned the spectrum of life.  In the early years, she was one of the founders  of the Childbirth Education League in Salinas.  While raising her two daughters and serving on numerous advisory councils and commissions, she went to graduate school, studying health planning and administration as well as gerontology.  Most recently, she retired as director of the Monterey County Area Agency on Aging.  She and her husband have lived in Salinas since 1968.  Kalah is the vice president, administration, of Partners for Transitions.

Carolyn Clark:
Carolyn’s previous careers include business communication and education and Braille transcription.  Her interest in elders began when her mother brought her a box of photos and papers about her emigration from Slovakia.  Carolyn was fascinated with the stories and created a “written heirloom”.  Years later, she became aware of ethical wills and the importance that they hold for the elderly as they review the stories and meaning of their lives.  Carolyn, who currently holds classes and support groups for those writing their family stories, lives with her husband and daughter in Pacific Grove.

Sandy Larson:
Sandy recently retired from Hospice of the Central Coast, where she worked as the medical librarian and resource specialist for nearly 30 years.  She was instrumental in developing several new programs and services for Hospice, most notably the Griefbuster Program and the Vigiling Service.  Her work with patients and families as well as the medical community brings a wealth of experience and understanding to Partners for Transitions.  She lives with her husband in Monterey; the couple has two grown sons.

Marnie Sperry:
Marnie’s background is in office and personnel management; she has also worked as a legal secretary.  Since 2000, Marnie has been Shary Farr’s administrative assistant.  Her avocation is helping people get their books and memoirs into print.  Marnie has lived in Carmel Valley since 1990.

Gail Sweeney:
Gail’s professional life has been in the retail sector, with a strong background in literature and book selling.  She worked at Bookworks in Pacific Grove for 18 years.  However, the thread that runs deepest through her life is as “a born caregiver”.  She was primary caregiver for her father for the three years before his death and was instrumental in the care of her mother and numerous other family members and friends.  Gail has lived on the Monterey Peninsula since 1982.

Roddy McArthur:
Roddy spent 35 years working in the financial sector in both San Francisco and Carmel.  Her primary interest is in helping seniors with bookkeeping and budgeting.  Since 1973, she has lived in Carmel Valley where she enjoys gardening and walking her four dogs.
